In our little family we have a tradition, birthdays are celebrated all month long. August is my birthday month, and I am utterly spoiled with morning coffees, dinners made, and pizza dates. I really don’t see how everyone else manages to celebrate their birthdays on just one day! But on my actual birthday I was treated to an extra special day. Come along and see…
Lunch at Petersham Nurseries in Richmond had been on my list of London things to do for ages, but it always seemed so far away. That’s the funny thing about trains though, once you’re on it and tucked into a good book, before you know it you’ve arrived at your destination. It was only about an hour by London Overground, then a nice walk through the charming streets of Richmond, skirting along beautiful green parks, and we were there.
We started with Rose Petal Prosecco cocktails to toast the day, then quickly moved into our starters of squash blossoms as well as Portland crab served with garlic aioli. The squash blossoms were deep fried in a sparkling water, gluten free batter. They also must have added a touch of magic because we have never had such perfectly crunchy blossoms. They are usually just a bit soggy. Not these. As you can see from the picture, perfect crunch in every bite. And of course we couldn’t say no to dessert! It was as good as it looks.
After finishing up lunch we spent some time wandering around the nursery and through their lifestyle stores. Everything in it is so lovely, rich in textures and gorgeous scents. If you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend a trip out to Petersham Nurseries. They’ve also just opened up a location in Covent Garden that is just as breathtaking, so pack your camera and plan a day!
